The Cyrus City Council took some time during its first meeting of 2010 to set the official calender of meetings for the year, and to appoint various officials and business associates for the city. In addition to making the annual appointments, the council also heard about the annual inspection on the city well and approved increasing the city water and sewer rates.
According to Allan Rutter, Thein Well had been in Cyrus and had completed the annual inspection on the city well. The inspection determined they replace pipe form the pump to the top of the well with a 4" plastic pipe. They also installed a stainless steel pump which replaced the cast iron pump. All the repairs are now completed.
Engebretson and Sons Disposal had notified the city that garbage rates would be increasing in April from $50.70 to $51.60. The question for the council was does the city than increase rates for water and sewer to align with the rates.
Most council members felt a rate increase was needed in order to at least break even on those accounts. After some discussion it was suggested, and later approved, that the water rates increase by $2.50 and the sewer rates would also increase by $2.50.
The council also approved appointing Hometown Community Bank as the city's official depository, The Starbuck Times as the official newspaper, Jere Ettesvold as city assessor, and Brent Waddell as city attorney.
All council members will monitor streets within the municipality while Gary Ness will be tree inspector and nuisance inspector will be Nathan Brecht. The Cyrus City Office window will be the official notice posting place for notices dealing with the city. The city treasurer will be Pat Anderson and city clerk will be Julie Rutter.
All regular monthly council happenings will be on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The one exception will be March 9 when the meeting will be moved to 8 p.m. due to township elections.
