| Welcome to the 27th
Annual Heritage Days
Chad Koenen Starbuck Times
The Heritage Days tradition continues in Starbuck when the 27th Annual Heritage Days celebration kicks off July 2. The lineup for the July 2-5 celebration mimics years past, but will feature a new wrinkle yet to be seen at Heritage Days.
Festivities officially kick off on Thursday evening with the annual Queens Style Show "Vintage Tea Party" at the Starbuck Community Center. All women who attend the event are being asked to get into the festive spirit by wearing a vintage hat. Tickets are needed for the show and can be picked up at A Touch of Class by July 1.
The most notable change to the lineup is the change in night's for the annual Johnny Holm Band Street Dance and Movie in the Park. This year the Johnny Holm dance at the Starbuck VFW will be held on Thursday night rather than Friday evening. The adjustment will mean a change in the schedule for the annual Movie in the Park, and open up space for a new talent show on Friday evening.
The first ever, Starbuck's Got Talent, will be held at the Starbuck Community Center on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. The talent show will be a take on the popular TV show and will feature a variety of locals acts. Everyone is encouraged to become a contestant in the talent show and can do so by contacting Starbuck Area Chamber of Commerce Director Lori Vaadeland at 239-3955, Marilyn Larson at 239-4251, Shari Opdahl at 239-4651, or Mary Baukol at 239-2972.
Following the talent show, the annual Movie in the Park will take place at city park.
On Saturday, Starbuck will be a busy place from sun up to sun down as the Fly-in Pancake Breakfast by Chris Cakes will get underway at 7 a.m. at the Starbuck Airport. The event will run through 12 p.m.
Also at 7 a.m. registration will begin at city park for the annual Heritage Days 5k and 10k run.
Beginning at 8 a.m., downtown Starbuck will be the place to be as the Starbuck Depot and Starbuck School Museum will hold an open house. At 9 a.m. the Craft Fair and Quilt Show will get underway near the downtown area, as well as a host of activities at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home.
At 10 a.m., area children will get their moment in the limelight when the Kiddie Parade and Kid Again Inflatables will get underway. The Push, Pedal, Pull Tractor Competition will follow the Kiddie Parade downtown. At 10:30 a.m., the Kiddie Carnival will begin at the Starbuck Depot.
When the warm afternoon sun begins to fall on the horizon, a Jr. and Sr. High Beach Party will be a prelude to the annual fireworks show near the city beach. The fireworks show will get underway around 10 p.m.
On Sunday, Heritage Days wraps up with a Community Church Service at the Starbuck City Park Bandshell at 10 a.m.
At 1:30 p.m., Heritage Days Grand Marshal Harlan Medalen will reign over the annual Heritage Days Parade. Following the parade, Heritage Days will come to a close with the crowning of a new Miss Minnewaska at city park.
